I have many folder and lists, so when I save a new word, many times I end up with the card being saved in 2 lists (since the previous one is 'sticky'). It's extremely annoying to have to soft through all folders and find the 'stale/sticky' one and remove it.

I think the benefit of a sticky list check mark is very low unless one only has a small number of lists,
so you shouldn't make it default or at least make it selectable

The reason to make it "Sticky" is because this was requested by users.
Imagine a user that is preparing the word list corresponding to one lesson, then he will be searching for a word in the dictionary, adding it to "the" list, then search for the next one, etc. If the user has many word lists it becomes quite trouble some to look for "the" target list each time. So we agreed to make it "Sticky".

In general, whenever the list selector pops up it always will open in the place of the "stick", and the mark of the list should be very clear within the view of the list selection. Then it can be ticked "off" and the correct one marked.

For your case, to find those words that are in more than one list, you can use the website - just log in and then choose "Content", if you then select "My Flashcards" you will see that the top line on the right side will allow you to select cards based on filters. Then at least you will know the cards that are wrong and may use the phone to remove the unwanted tick.
