Let's take a look at 一起 and 一同
1. 一同 [yi4 tong2] , (adv) together, at the same time and place
2. 一起 [yi4 qi3] , (n/adv) the same group, place, etc.; together, in company; (dialect) altogether, in all
Their major difference is:
一起 can be a noun and when it is a noun, it can be appear after a verb or preposition:
E.g. 她跟男朋友住在一起。 [phr] She lives with (her) boyfriend.
E.g. 放在一起 [phr] put together
In these two sentences above, we cannot use 一同 to replace 一起.
一同 shares the second meaning of 一起 (adv.), meaning "(to do something) together, at the same time and place". In this sense, they are interchangeable:
E.g. 我们一起 (or 一同) 去吧! [phr] Let's go together!
一同 does not have the last meaning of 一起: (dialect) altogether, in all

The word 一起 (yīqǐ) generally means "together" or "in company," and it is widely used in various contexts. However, there are situations where using 一起 (yīqǐ) may not be appropriate. Here are some examples:
1. In very formal or literary contexts, 一起 (yīqǐ) might not be the most suitable term. Instead, more formal phrases like 共同 (gòngtóng), meaning "together" or "jointly," might be preferred.
2. When you want to emphasize that people or things are apart or not together, using 一起 (yīqǐ) would be contradictory. For example, if you are talking about people who are working separately, you would not use 一起 (yīqǐ).
3. If you are referring to people or entities that belong to different groups, using 一起 (yīqǐ) may not be fitting. Instead, you might use phrases like 各自 (gèzì), meaning "each" or "respectively," to indicate that they are acting independently.

一起 (yīqǐ) is used to express that two or more people are doing something together. For example, 你们一起去吃饭吧 (nǐmen yīqǐ qù chīfàn ba) means "Let's go eat together". It can also be used to express that two or more things are in the same place or group. For example, 我们一起去公园 (wǒmen yīqǐ qù gōngyuán) means "Let's go to the park together".

一块儿 and 一起 both mean "together," but 一块儿 is more colloquial and commonly used in spoken language, while 一起 is more neutral and suitable for both spoken and written contexts.
