开阔 stresses “openness” and can extend metaphorically, e.g. scenery and mentality. 宽阔 stresses “width” and is mainly for physical things, e.g. roads, rivers, spaces, body parts.

Example sentences:
- 草原非常开阔,让人心情舒畅。The grassland is so open it makes you feel at ease.
- 这条街道很宽阔,能同时通行六辆车。This street is very wide, enough for six cars at once.
