忍心 (rěnxīn) is used to express the feeling of having the heart to do something, or being hardhearted. It is often used in the negative form, such as 不忍心 (bù rěnxīn), meaning "not having the heart to do something". For example, one might say 他不忍心把它扔掉 (Tā bù rěnxīn bǎ tā rēng diào), meaning "He couldn't bear to throw it away".
