To make 稀饭 (xīfàn), you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 cup of rice (米饭, mǐfàn)
- 4 cups of water (水, shuǐ)
Instructions:
1. Rinse the rice in a bowl until the water runs clear. Drain the rice and set it aside.
2. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. If using ginger and/or garlic, add them to the water now.
3. Add the rice to the boiling water and stir. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. After 20 minutes, check the consistency of the rice. If it is too thick, add more water (about 1/2 cup at a time) and stir until desired consistency is reached.
5. Continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and the porridge has reached your desired consistency.
