堂兄弟 (táng xiōngdì) is appropriate to use in conversation when referring to a paternal male cousin. It is used to distinguish between a cousin who is related through the father's side of the family, and a cousin who is related through the mother's side of the family (表兄弟 biǎo xiōngdì).
