The conjunctions 因为 and 所以 are often used together in a complex sentence to indicate cause and effect. For example:
Example 1. [phr] Because it rained, I did not go jogging.

There are two points we need to bear in mind when we use the conjunctions:
1. It is not necessary that the two appear together in a sentence: 因为 can be used by itself at the beginning of the first clause indicating the cause or reason (Example 2). Likewise, 所以 can also be used alone at the beginning of the second clause indicating the effect or result (Example 3).
Example 2. [phr] He is so busy that he has kept working for a whole year without any holidays.
Example 3. [phr] He likes a life of freedom, so he often travels alone.

2. If we reverse the sequence of the two clauses in the sentence, there are two ways of using the conjunctions. We can either use only 因为 in the second clause indicating the cause (Example 4), or use this structure “(之)所以…,是因为….。”(Example 5).
Example 4. [phr] I like summer because I can swim in the sea.
Example 5. [phr] The reason why he achieved such good grades is that he has always worked hard.
