You can use 尝试 (cháng shì) in a sentence to mean "attempt". For example, you can say: 我尝试了很多次，但是仍然没有成功 (wǒ cháng shì le hěn duō cì, dàn shì réng rán méi yǒu chéng gōng) which translates to "I have attempted many times, but still have not succeeded".
