They are not the same. 粟米 (sù mǐ) has a wider meaning and it refers to millet, rice, barley or generally all different types of grains, while 玉米 (yù mǐ) refers to "corn" in English.

玉米 (yùmǐ) is a type of grain, so it can be used in a sentence to refer to the grain itself. For example, "我们正在种植玉米 (wǒmen zhèngzài zhòngzhí yùmǐ)" which translates to "We are planting maize/corn". It can also be used to refer to food made from the grain, such as "我喜欢吃玉米饼 (wǒ xǐhuan chī yùmǐbǐng)" which translates to "I like to eat cornbread".
