新年 (xīn nián) is used to greet someone during the Chinese New Year. It is a way of wishing someone a happy and prosperous new year. It is very common to say 祝你新年快乐 (zhù nǐ xīn nián kuài lè) which means "wishing you a happy new year". It is also often used in conjunction with other phrases such as 恭喜发财 (gōng xǐ fā cái) which means "wishing you wealth and prosperity".
