One example of a situation where I might use 打开 (dǎkāi) is when I want to turn on a light or electronic device. For example, I might say "请帮我打开灯 (qǐng bāng wǒ dǎkāi dēng)" which means "Please help me turn on the light." Another example could be when I want to open a door or window, in which case I might say "我要打开窗户 (wǒ yào dǎkāi chuānghù)" which means "I want to open the window."
