相同 vs 同样

1. Both are adjectives, but the meanings are slighly different - 相同 is "same" or "identical". 同样 is can be "similar", not identical.

2. 相同 and 同样 can both be used as attributive modifiers - meanning they both appear before particle 的, followed by noun.
For example:
- 相同的话 the same words
- 同样的话 the same words

3. 相同 can be used a predicate of a sentence, but 同样 cannot be used in this way. FOr example, we cannot use 同样 to replace 相同:
For example:
- 结果相同。The result is the same.
- 他们俩的想法相同。Their (referring to two persons) ideas are the same.

4. When appearing in a structure as the adverbial adjunct, or as part of the adverbial adjunct, only 同样 (not 相同) can be used.
For example:
与开幕式一样，北京奥运会的闭幕式同样精彩。Like the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games was also amazing.
