抓 VS 捉
1. When they are used independently as verbs, 抓 is more frequently used than 捉. Their meanings are very similar. 抓 emphasizes on the action itself, while 捉 emphasizes on the result (the result is that the freedom of a person, insect, small animals is limited).
2. If it's an insect, we usually use 捉. If it's a small animal, e.g. mouse, both 抓 and 捉 are acceptable.
3. 捉 appears in some idioms (fixed four-character idioms) where it cannot be replaced by 抓
