Number "2" is read 两 (liang3), when appearing before a measure word. Examples: 两个星期,两本书,两张邮票,两条鱼, etc. For nouns that can be used as measure words, we also use 两. For example, we say 两年.

But when it precedes a measure word of length, capacity or weight, "2" can either be 二 (er4) or 两 (liang3). Examples: 二斤苹果 and 两斤苹果 are both correct. (斤, jin1, half kilogram).
