You should use 末 (mò) instead of 后 (hòu) when you are referring to the end of something, or the last stage of something. 后 (hòu) can also mean "after" or "behind" (后面 hòumiàn). 末 (mò) can also mean "minor details that are not important" or "finally" (最后 zuìhòu).
