In everyday conversation, 数学 (shùxué) is often used to refer to mathematics or math's. For example, someone might say 今天我们要学习数学 (jīntiān wǒmen yào xuéxí shùxué) which translates to "Today we are going to learn math's". It can also be used to refer to someone's ability in math's, for example someone might say 我的数学不太好 (wǒ de shùxué bù tài hǎo) which translates to "My math's is not very good".
