姐妹 (jiěmèi) can be used to refer to both family members and friends. It refers to two or more female siblings, two or more female friends, or a combination of female siblings and friends. It is not used to refer to male siblings or male friends. For male siblings, the term 兄弟 (xiōngdì) is used. For male friends, the term 哥们 (gēmen) is used.
