There are many adverbs of degree in Chinese, and 很 is the most common one of them. 很, as well as 非常(fei1chang2), indicates that the degree is high objectively. Therefore, we always use both of them in describing an objective condition.
Different from 很 and 非常, 太 (tai4) expresses a subjective comment of the speaker. Please check out our notes on 太(tai4).
