One word that means the same thing as 红薯 (hóngshǔ) is 地瓜 (dìguā). Both 红薯 and 地瓜 refer to the same type of root vegetable, the sweet potato. However, 红薯 is more commonly used in northern China, while 地瓜 is more commonly used in southern China.
