"而言" (ér yán) is commonly used in conversation to mean "with regard to". It is used to introduce a topic or to indicate that the following statement is related to the topic that has been previously discussed. For example, if someone has been talking about their job, they might say "就目前而言,我很喜欢我的工作" (jiù mù qián ér yán, wǒ hěn xǐ huan wǒ de gōng zuò) which translates to "For the time being, I really like my job".
