看书 (kàn shū) and 阅读 (yuè dú) both mean "read (a book)" in Chinese, but they have slightly different connotations. 看书 (kàn shū) implies a more casual reading experience, such as reading for leisure or pleasure. 阅读 (yuè dú) implies a more serious reading experience, such as reading for study or research.
