A friend in Taiwan told me this pronunciation was not used in Taiwan. Instead, they use “kǎ” for all meanings.

Hi Anna, thank you for pointing it out. Yes, the Mandarin Chinese used in TW and the one in mainland are different in some ways, even though people from these two areas can understand each other without any problem. Pronunciations of certain words can be different. Our dictionary is based on authoritative dictionaries in mainland China.
