算 (suàn) is used to indicate the action of counting or calculating. For example, 他算了一下 (tā suàn le yīxià) means "He counted/calculated it". It can also be used to indicate that something is considered to be a certain way, as in 我算是有点儿责任 (wǒ suàn shì yǒudiǎnr zérèn) which means "I consider myself to have some responsibility".
