不但不 (bùdànbù) is used in conversational Chinese to mean "instead of (doing sth)". It is used to express a contrast between two actions, where one action is not done and the other is done instead. For example, 不但不去，还要回来 (bùdànbù qù, hái yào huílái) meaning "instead of going, (I) have to come back".
