There are three important structural particles, and 得 is one of them. The other two are 地 and 的. These structural particles indicate grammatical relations. Their pronunciation is exactly the same -- "de" with the neutral tone (you may search for 的 and 得 in trainhinese dictionary), however, they are written differently and they are not interchangeable.
得 is used between a verb/an adjective and a complement. It is the signal of complements.
- 做得很好 [phr] do very well
- 车开得不快 [phr] The car is not driven very fast
- 起得很早 [phr] to get up very early
