拍马屁 (pāi mǎ pì) is a Chinese idiom that literally translates to "patting the horse's butt." It is used to describe someone who flatters or praises someone else excessively in order to gain their favor or approval.
Example 1: 他总是拍马屁,希望老板能提拔他。(Tā zǒng shì pāi mǎ pì, xīwàng lǎobǎn néng tíbá tā.) He always flatters his boss, in hopes of being promoted by him.
Example 2: 别拍马屁了,老板不会因为你的奉承而提升你的职位。(Bié pāi mǎ pì le, lǎobǎn bù huì yīnwèi nǐ de fèngchéng ér tíshēng nǐ de zhíwèi.) Stop flattering, the boss won't promote you just because of your flattery.
