还 is often used in the second clause of a complex sentence indicating a further meaning. The subjects of the two clauses can be same (Example 1) or different (Example 2). As an adverb, 还 must appear between the subject and the predicate verb (if the subjects of the two clauses are different).
Example 1. 玛丽买水果,还买酒。 [phr] Mary will buy fruits, and (she) will also buy wine.
Example 2. 别人都走了,为什么你还在这里? [phr] Everyone else has left. Why are you still here?

"还是" (háishi) and "还" (hái) can both mean "still".

- 还是 (háishi) as "still" often carries a nuance of persistence or expectation that the situation remains unchanged, and it is frequently used to emphasize that something is surprisingly or disappointingly unchanged.

- 还 (hái) as "still" is used more neutrally to indicate that an action or state continues over time without additional connotations.

In addition, "还是" (háishi) and "还" (hái) have other meanings that they do not share with one another.
