Hello!

I'm using a book I really like to study hanzi.  It teaches over two thousand single hanzi words not by starting with the most common, but by starting with the simplest and building up from there.  The bad thing is that there are many words that are not so common.  But, the good thing is that it gives brief ways to remember the meaning of each word and when I learn a new word, I have already learned each component of that word.

I've got a point that I'll be getting to momentarily.

The author also includes some free study material that is very useful.  One of those is a pdf file that lists the compound words created by the words in the book, in the order they're given in the book.  This is what I use to create my card lists here.

The thing is, the file is 600 pages and lists about 50,000 words.

I'm not interested in learning all 50,000 words.

Is there any way that lists can be filtered by word frequency?

Also, is there any way that I could send a link to the file to have the lists created, rather than adding them one page at a time?

I'm sure the lists would be useful to others.

Our own dictionary contains words and phrases mostly based on the fact that they are most common - nad mostly used.

You may use our Dictionary as a reference to identify words which are potentially worth learning. At last that will be a starting point.  Currently our import function for word lists does not allow for removing words form the list after it is evaluated each of the words to be imported. But we could implement such a possibility so that you could then eliminate words which at present are not in our dictionary.

As for filtering by frequency of words, I am not sure what you mean with word frequency.

For creating lists of words (importing them) we need to check word for word, the most effective way is by using the Import word list function. That requires to copy paste words into the browser but with exception of that nothing else. Unfortunately we can not process information contained in other websites.

Thanks for your response, Klaus.

I'd like to rely on the trainchinese dictionary to give me the more common words when I cut and paste my word lists.  However, most of the words that are not instantly processed into flashcards are later processed and added to my list.  That is an excellent feature of trainchinese's service, but is there a way I can disable that function, so I don't end up with too many flashcards?

Currently it is not possible to disable the future addition of imported words that are not in the trainchinese database, but we are working on implementing that function now.

We now are done with that and the function is working.

On the import page you can preselect if you do not want to have words added which are missing in the trainchinese dictionary.

If you then add a series of words including some which are not in our dictionary then you still will see the words not in our dictionary and you still can decide to add specific words (but if you don not change the words then they will not be added to your list).
